Our hearts are broken, the smiles and laughter have gone out of our lives. Gregory Lyle Wood, 83, died peacefully at Billings Clinic on Tuesday March 11th after a short battle with throat cancer.
Greg was born in Ellston, Iowa November 22, 1941 to Donald Wood and Pauline Gray Wood. He grew up on the family farm with his six siblings.
After high school Greg joined the US Army and was proud to be an artillery crewman and paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service he attended the University of Colorado in Boulder before beginning his lifetime career in sales.
Greg was in various sales and management positions with New Holland farm implement company for over 20 years before buying his own dealership in 1986. His 20 years owning Billings Equipment Company were the highlight of his career, serving the agricultural communities around Montana and northern Wyoming. Many of his customers, employees and business associates became lifetime friends.
After selling the dealership in 2006 Greg and Debbie enjoyed a busy retirement full of golf, world travel and fun times spent with friends and family in Montana and Arizona. His smile and laughter drew people to him like a moth to a flame and his jokes and stories were legendary. The world was a better place with him in it.
Greg is mourned by his wife Debbie (Haberthier), his sons Brently Wood (Melissa) Michael Wood (Mercy) Isaac Rush (Kendra) and Paul Rush. His daughter Cristine Hoferer. His siblings Glenda Jobe, Janet Jackson, Maryann Pottorff and Ron Wood (Pam). Grandsons Nick Wood (Maggie), Tyrel Hoferer, Logan and Grayson Bullock. Granddaughters Emelia, Haylie and Macie Wood, Aubrey Rush, and four great grandchildren.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leroy and Kenny Wood and son-in-law Jess Hoferer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Billings Clinic Foundation for cancer care or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
