Harold Hemming passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, surrounded by loved ones.
Harold was born on May 2, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the eldest son of Beullah and Harold Hemming.
Harold served his country with the United States Coast Guard and the United States Navy before he had an honorable discharge. He was serving on the USS Missouri when the peace treaty was signed on Sept. 2, 1945.
He liked going to Red Sox games when they ported in Massachusetts. He settled in Boston after the military. In Mandan, N.D., he married his loving wife, Esther Schafer, in 1960. They had three children: Rick, Bryon and Brenda. Harold drove truck for 30 years. Consolidated Freightway was where he retired.
Harold is survived by his wife, Esther; children Rick (Debbi), Bryon (Stacey) and Brenda (Theo); grandchildren Rickey (Jocelyn) Hemming, Bryon Hemming, Whittney Ostermiller, Cassie Gregory, Tyler and Zach Hemming; great-grandchild Maddex Hemming, all of Billings. He is also survived by siblings Robert, Buck, Cleo, Beverly Hemming and Larry and William Heming, and Richard, Gail, Maureen and Paul Hemming. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and granddaughter Faith Nicole Ostermiller.
Harold had many hobbies: fishing, gardening, building model ships and remote controlled planes. He leaves behind many loved ones and his dog, Betsy. He will be missed by everyone he came in contact with. He was a very loving man.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave.
