Harry Hanson, 95, passed away on Dec. 22, 2015.

Harry was born on May 20, 1920, in Cohagen, MT to Karen and Anton Hanson, who immigrated from Norway and became U.S. citizens. Harry and his family moved to Billings when he was S years old and he remained a resident of Billings for 90 years. In his early years he worked in carpentry, many times in partnership with his older brother Clarence. When they were still very young, Harry and Clarence built a home for their parents, excavating the basement and doing the landscaping entirely by hand. In 1943 through 1945, Harry served his country in the Army Air Force. He was a member of the 456th Bomb Group, 744th Bomb Squadron which was deployed primarily in Italy. He was a Staff Sergeant when discharged in late 1945.

Upon return from WWII, Harry resumed his career as a home builder, sometimes in partnership with Clarence. In the 1960’s Harry built his first series of apartment complexes. In the 1970’s, Harry and Clarence completed a new apartment complex and formed a partnership called Hanson Brothers. Harry always enjoyed working with the apartments and valued his relationship with the tenants. He formed many lasting relationships with folks that rented and did business with him.

Harry’s biggest love was his family, and he was intensely loyal and supportive to all of us. In his spare time, Harry loved hunting, camping and being outdoors. Harry also loved working in the yard, growing vegetables and raspberries.

Harry is survived by his lifelong partner, his wife of 68 years, Helen. He is also survived by his son Irv, wife Elena and her son Sam; and grandsons Drew, fiancé Savannah and her daughter Saylor; Aaron, wife Annette and their sons (Harry’s great grandsons) Logan and Joshua; and Levi, wife Mayu. He is survived by sister-in-law's Ardis Hanson and Marianne Fontana, husband Al; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harry was the last of his generation of Hanson siblings – he was preceded in death by Anna Miller, Alma VanTricht, Clarence, Marguerite Smith, Melvin, and Oscar.

The compassionate care given to Harry at Valley Health Center is so very much appreciated. The staff (and residents) were a source of strength for our family through this difficult time. We will never forget them.

Viewing will be from 1to 4 PM on Sunday, Dec. 27, and 8 AM to service time on Monday, Dec. 28 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001Alderson Ave. Funeral services will be at 1PM Monday, Dec.28, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with interment to follow at Mountview Cemetery.
