Hubert Malone, 96 of Denver, formerly of Billings and Wyoming, passed away on May 10, 2010 at in Denver, CO. Hubert was born on August 29, 1913, in Sulphur, OK, the son of H.E. and Lillian Malone.
After graduating from high school, Hubert joined the Civil Conservation Core, primarily building the Shoshone Dam in Wyoming. Once his work was done, he took to the road, hitchhiking around the country visiting friends and family and working odd jobs along the way. His travels brought him back to Wyoming and on a blind date; he met his future wife, Opal Knight. Hubert and Opal were married on June 6, 1936, in Cody, WY. After living in Dallas for a while, they moved to San Diego, CA where Hubert began a 45 year career as a civil servant for the U.S. Air Force.
In 1957, after 22 years of marriage, and much to their surprise, their baby Mary Lynn was born. With a new born and in their mid 40's life was about to change. After retiring and moving to Wyoming, they decided it was time to go back to California and back to the Air Force job. Hub served there until Mary Lynn graduated from college.
In their later years, Hub and Opal lived in Carson City, NV and later Billings, where they moved to be closer to Opal's family and their daughter, who had settled in Denver. Opal passed away in Billings on March 17, 2005. Hub continued to live here for a few more years, until moving to Denver to be near Mary Lynn and her family.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and his wife of nearly 70 years, Opal. He is survived by his daughter Mary Lynn Malone and her partner Lisa; granddaughters, Alexandrovna (Ali) and Grace; as well as nephew Nick and his daughter Nicole and yellow lab, Crystal; nephew Dave and wife Barb; nephew Tim and wife Jody and their daughter Kayla.
A memorial celebration will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, at nephew Dave's home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum
