Jack Lutgen will be remembered by all for his kindness, generosity and humor.

Jack always thought it was funny that a farm kid from a small town would end up owning one of the best office equipment dealerships in Montana. He didn't start out with any thoughts of starting a business. In fact, during his college days at Montana State University, he was studying to become a wildlife biologist, but somehow ended up being recruited by IBM to become a salesman. His success with IBM lead him to eventually start Automated Office Systems, Inc.

Jack would tell you that the secret to success is to be humble and to think positive thoughts. And if you knew him, you know he followed his own advice.

For Jack, there was nothing better than an early morning goose hunt. He loved the outdoors. If it was the weekend, you could bet that he'd probably be fishing, hunting or doing something outdoors.

Jack and Judy Rand Stevens married in 1999. Together, they built a beautiful ranch nestled in the Big Belt Mountains. He cherished every moment that he could spend with Judy at their Grassy Mountain dream retreat. He felt fortunate that "Grassy" allowed him to reconnect with his farm roots.

Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, several professional organizations, and was well respected in the local business community.

Jack passed away on Oct. 31, 2017, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

A gathering of remembrance will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 537 Grand Ave.

Jack is survived by his wife, Judy. Also surviving are a son Senit (Shari), and grandson Tyler of Spokane, Washington; and Judy's four children from Florida: Allen, Louise, Victoria and John. His sister Yvonne Harris (Joel) of Billings also survives. His numerous nieces and nephews had a close relationship with Jack.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Lutgen and Elaine Maier; and his brother James.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
