Jake Adams, 87 of Billings, passed away at home on July 9, as a result of aortic stenosis. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 22, 1923 to Jake and Jewell (Dantic) Adams at the family home 215 N. 23rd. Street in Billings.

Jake was educated in Billings Public Schools and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1941. Following graduation, he began a machinist apprenticeship for Northern Pacific Railroad in Laurel and was there from September 1941 until October 1942. He then joined the Navy and served in World War II on board the heavy cruiser USS Minneapolis in the South Pacific until January 3, 1946. He was honorably discharged at Bremerton, Washington on January 18, 1946.

Following Jake's service in the military, he went to work as a machinist in Laurel until October 18, 1949 when he went to work for Continental Oil Refinery in Billings and continued there until November 1, 1982 when he retired. He was a member of the "49ers" who started up the refinery.

On April 15, 1952 Jake was united in marriage with Patricia Early in Laurel. From this marriage two children were born, daughter Mary Kay (Pat) Kimmet of Laurel and Bill (Debbie) Adams of Billings.

Jake was above all, a family man and had many happy times with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed his cabin at Hebgen Lake. He was, at one time, a football official and this fit in well with his love of the game as he had played on the Billings Senior High football team which took the state championship in 1939.

Pat and Jake enjoyed many reunions of the USS Minneapolis and trips to Lad Vegas and Wendover. He was a member of St. Pius X Church, BPOE and the American Legion of Billings.

Jake was preceded in death b his parents, Jake and Jewell Adams; and sisters Donna Adams and Evelyn Kraft. His is survived by his wife Pat; son Bill; daughter Mary Kay; grandchildren Scott (Monique) Kimmett of Goodyear, AZ, and Matthew (Sojourn) Kimmet of Missoula, and Lisa Kimmet of Missoula; as well as his brother Jim Adams of Billings and three nieces.

We want to especially thank Dr. Michael Hagen who took such good are of Jake all these years and Riverstone Hospice for their short but excellent care.

At Jake's request, cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to St. Pius X Church or Riverstone Hospice.

Mary Kay, Pat and family; I was so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I saw him at the VA from time to time and he was always such a sweetheart. He always spoke very highly of you all. What a gentle man. I will be thinking of you at this sorrowful time, as I often do.
