Janice Arlene Amen Profile Photo

Janice Arlene Amen was born in Laurel, MT on September 3, 1937. She passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Intermountain Health St. Vincent Hospital, Billings.

She was the youngest and only girl born to William and Evelyn Michael joining her 2 brothers, William Jr.(Billy) and Robert (Bobby). She grew up on the family farm NE of Billings, MT playing with her cats and dogs and working with her 4-H animals. Her love of animals, especially dogs became a lifelong love. She graduated 8th grade in 1951 from Pioneer School and went on to Senior High school graduating in 1955. She married Don Amen in 1956. From that union, 10 years later, a beautiful daughter, Kristine Kae Holm, was happily welcomed. Jan devoted her life to Kris, attending school functions, dance recitals, and later visiting Kris and her husband, Norm, in Kirkland, WA. Sadly, lifelong plans changed forever when Kris was diagnosed with melanoma, fighting a long battle that was lost when Kris succumbed to cancer in 2003. Jan’s life was never the same again. She worked at Dana Motors as a secretary/office administrator for 41 years. She loved her job and took it seriously. During her lifetime Jan belonged to many clubs and organizations. She was active in the Elks and the Big Sky Polka Club and the Moose. Any club or organization she belonged to, Jan took pleasure in being an active member often serving as an officer in some respect. Jan loved clogging, square dancing and polka. Jans’ friends and acquaintances remember Jan for her quirky humor and wit, her caring attitude toward others, love of fashion including clothes, shoes, and jewelry and of course her stylish hair, that weekly appointment that was rarely missed. She was particular about her style, dressing in coordinated outfits. She kept an immaculate lawn and flowers at her house where she lived for 61 years until moving to West Park, spending the last 9 months of her life there. She may have left her home and many favorite belongings behind but took her unique charm and humor with her.

Jan is preceded in death by her daughter Kristine Kae Holm and Kris’s husband Norm Holm, former Husband Don Amen, her brother William and her sister-in-law Shirley Michael,  brother Robert Michael (Marguerite), her parents, William and Evelyn and her very dear friend Bob Schafer.

Jan is survived by her grandchildren, James and Marissa Holm and their son Jacob, and Tim Holm; her sister-in-law Marguerite Michael. She is survived  by her many nieces and nephews whom she loved unconditionally; Jan  loved spending time with friends Eric and Jason and her lifelong friend Evelyn. Before moving ,she adored and appreciated the meals the evening BBQ’s and love; provided by her neighbors Brent and Jen and their dogs.

Special thanks to all of the doctors and nurses and caregivers who cared for Jan during these last months. Your guidance and compassion are so welcomed. Services will be on Thursday, December 19,  at 1 p.m., at Michelotti- Sawyers.
