Jean Schollmeyer Fischer Profile Photo

Jean Schollmeyer Fischer, our dear mother, wife and grandmother died peacefully December 31, 2015.

Jean was born 92 years ago to Jimmie (Curtis) and Elias Holen in Big Timber, MT. She grew up on the family ranch during the depression years with her brother Elias Jr., Herbert and Harold. We loved to hear her talk about ranch life, and riding her horse to a country school.

During her early married life Jean moved to Livingston. She was an accomplished homemaker, excelling at baking, sewing, knitting, embroidery and needlework of all kinds. There were many weddings graced with a beautiful cake made by Jean. She was a fine role model for hard work, honesty and caring.

Jean and Louis owned and operated Schollmeyer Oil Co. for many years before retiring and moving to Billings. Her knitting and needlework skills soon had her employed at The Threaded Needle. During this time Jean created a needlepoint piece that the United Way used in a mural in their national headquarters. Her granddaughter Natalie would accompany her to work and together they sewed many clothes for her dolls.

Her husband Lou Schollmeyer died in 1994. Jean spent the next several years traveling and enjoying family. On one of her adventures she met James Fischer and they were married in 1999. Jean and Jim had sixteen years together, enjoying traveling, working in their garden and activities in their church.

She is survived by her husband Jim Fischer, daughters Louella Purkett, Linda (Roger) Finn, Patsy (David) Whitehead, Marilyn (Ted) Landers, brothers Herb and Harold Holen, nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the spring. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tender Nest for their love and care.

If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, we'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. Your loving family.
