Jerone "Rose" Lane, longtime Glasgow resident, passed away of natural causes on July 8, 2016, at TenderNest Assisted Living in Billings.

Born in Griswold, N.D., on March 17, 1924, to Hulda and Wilhelm Busche, Rose was the 12th child of 14. In 1938, the family moved to Valley City, N.D., where Rose graduated in 1941.

After graduation, Rose moved to California, where she was employed at the Defense Plant as "Rosie, the Riveter." She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Naval Department as a receptionist.

When Rose returned home in September 1943, Company C, which was stationed in Valley City, organized an event to choose a wheat queen. From 14 contestants, Rose was selected.

On April 4, 1945, Rose married her sweetheart Arlen W. "Doc" Lane in Glasgow. They had three girls, Linda, Robin and Kelly; and one son, Jeff.

Rose worked in the Buttrey's Clothing and Furniture store, Grill Cafe, Sam's Supper Club, and CG's Oasis. In 1970, she starting caring for the elderly and worked in that capacity until she moved to Billings in August of 1999. Rose was a caretaker extraordinaire ... she loved and encouraged all who were under her wing by doing extra little things that made them feel special.

Family was the center of Rose's life. She continually made cookies, pies, and superb evening meals. It was not unusual to find a game of whist or rummy on the table. Her yard and flowers were magnificent. Rose welcomed whoever needed a caring ear or a cup of coffee.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Doc; her parents; sisters Stella Froemke, Irene Madson, Mildred Huebner, Violet Pearson and Marvis Broderick; brothers Melvin, Billy, Art, Leonard, Reinhardt, Walter and Earl. She is survived by one sister of Sacramento, Calif., Lucille Jackline.

Also surviving are Rose's daughters, Linda (Marvin) Pischel of Glasgow, Robin (Jay Dean) Johannsen of Sunburst, Kelly (George) Gray of Billings; and son Jeff (Mary) of Maryland. Her grandchildren include Shane Pischel, Katie and Brian Lane, Jace and Zach Johannsen, and Shondel, Brittany and Sahmahrah Lane. Great-grandchildren include Cecilia and Henri.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and administration of TenderNest as well as the loving care provided by Rocky Mountain Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held in November or December. Cards may be sent to Robin at 69 Johannsen Road, Shelby, MT, 59474 or messages sent to Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.
