Jerry Joseph Prouse went home to be with Jesus on Oct. 19, 2015, while listening to beautiful gospel music with the love of his life, his wife Polly.

Jerry was born in Charleston, W.Va., on Dec. 20, 1943, the oldest of five children born to Ann and Avrell Prouse. While growing up , he had the opportunity to learn about Jesus when his parents were saved and, at 17, he moved from Charleston to Indiana to attend Frankfort Pilgrim College. There, he met the most beautiful woman, Paulette Freels, and became her lifelong soulmate and companion. They came through this life together for 50 wonderful years.

He was an inventor, writer, sculptor, musician, speaker, pilot, mechanic, engineer and, above all, he was a father and husband who put God first in his life, then his wife and family, who are better for knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Polly; and his five children and 10 grandchildren: daughter Anna, son Wesley (Melinda), daughter Tammy (Charles), son Lance (Rachel) and daughter Laine; grandchildren Kaylena, Tyrell, Kylee, Kendra, Caleb, Lee, Molly, Charlie, David and Sam; and his brother Kenny (Martha) Prouse. Jerry had so many friends and they were so special to him, and we would like to acknowledge their friendship to our dad.

Jerry was a true lover of God and family, always thankful and reminding others to give thanks for the blessings Jesus has given us. He will forever be remembered in the books and poems he has written over the years, usually revolving around his love for God, his family and especially his queen, Polly.

We are sad because we will miss him so much, but we are so thankful that we have God's promise that we will see him again. He had recently gone to telling people he was going to make it to heaven first, but he would be there waiting for us, holding the gate to let us that follow in.

Well, Daddy, we can't wait to see you holding the gate for us that follow behind you, and there a tear shall not fall, and we'll all have time in the world for a story or two about how you met Jesus finally face to face, and we all will be together again.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers any donation please go to the Gideons International.

Funeral services will be 1pm Friday, October 23, 2015 at Beacon Church.
