John Guenthner was born on Jan. 7, 1940, in Hazen, N.D., to Reinhold and Elizabeth Guenthner. On April 28, 2016, John lost his courageous battle with cancer ,with family comforting him.

John met his spouse Nancy the same day he received his Army deployment papers back in the late 1950s. They corresponded using letters until they got married nearly 55 years ago. John had been a longtime resident of Billings, having worked for the City of Billings for 30 years while raising his family.

John is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Edna and Freida; brothers Ray, Howard and Alvin; and in-laws John and Florence Connors. Surviving his death include his wife of nearly 55 years, Nancy; as well as his five children, including Sherry Parks (Doug) of Boise, Idaho, Kevin (Carolyn) of Billings, Bev Mower of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mark of Mercer Island, Wash., and Rhonda Dark (Eric) of Greensboro, N.C. He also leaves behind brothers Duane (Mary Ann), Byron (Arleen), Harry (Dee) and Ted. Additionally, he is survived by his beloved grandchildren Megan Osler (JP), Kasey Irving (Patrick), Nicole, Lauren, RJ and Shaeleigh Mower, and Parker and Khalon Martin, as well as great-grandchildren Taren, Emily, Riley and one on the way.

There will be a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave, Billings.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 537 Grand Ave., Billings, MT 59101. There will be a burial and luncheon following the service. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
