John Glen “Johnny” Rookhuizen

John Glen Rookhuizen passed away on Oct. 14, 2020, at Banner University Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. John was born in Billings on Sept. 7, 1962, baby of the family, to Jane (McNealey) and William Rookhuizen.

John attended schools in Billings, graduating from West High in 1979. Out of high school, he learned carpentry and mechanic's skills from his dad. But he found his calling in sales of automobiles, becoming a car dealer and operating his own lot for many years.

John had a very outgoing personality and was friendly to everyone he met. He was always first to help someone out if he could. He was kind, compassionate and full of love to his family and friends. John really liked vintage cars and trucks, and owned a few. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends through the years, always competing to see who could catch the biggest fish. He liked to cook and barbecue for his family. John loved animals and had many beloved dogs over the years. He was a fan of rock 'n roll music. His favorite song was Collective Soul's "Shine."

John, for many years, grew his own garden and took a lot of pride in his vegetables he grew. Christmas was his favorite holiday and he loved decorating his house and yard with a whole lot of Christmas lights, making Christmas special for his children when they were small.

He enjoyed remodeling his many homes he owned over the years, and took a lot of pride in the work he did himself. John moved to Tucson in 2000, due to chronic asthma, leaving Montana that he loved so. John married Jennifer Reiter in Billings in 1982. They were married for 38 years.

John is survived by his wife, Jennifer; son Brandon; daughter Jessica (Jeremy) Wright; daughter Tiffney; grandsons Devan, Aiden and Jake; granddaughter Jenny; siblings Steve Rookhuizen, Rachel (Gordon) McCann, Esther (Willy) Seerup, Herman Rookhuizen, Emma (Randy) Nauman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill Rookhuizen; niece Jenny McCann; and sister-in-law Debbie Rookhuizen.

John, our memories will be our treasures. You will always stay loved and remembered. You will be deeply missed by your family and friends.

Graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Mountview Cemetery, beside his parents.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
