Jonathan Alan Bough
June 12, 1986 — June 19, 2023
Jonathan Alan Bough, age 37, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at home in Billings, Montana, surrounded by family. He was a loving son and brother, a fun uncle and protector, a hard worker and doggy daddy to Stella. He fought hard amid cascading health issues until his last breath.
Jon was born on June 12, 1986, at the United States Army Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, to Ronald and Lee (Stecher) Bough. He was baptized in the Catholic faith in St. Peter’s Dom, Worms, Germany, on July 12, 1986. He was confirmed in his faith at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings on May 1, 1994. He graduated from Billings West High School in 2004 and joined the Montana Army National Guard. He attended basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and advanced individual training as a combat medic at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. He served two deployments to Iraq: the first in Basrah, the second in An-Nasiriyah. He left the Army as a Staff Sergeant in 2018.
Jon had a passion for storytelling and an affinity for movie quotes. He was known for his quick wit and infectious smile. He played the violin, bass and bass guitar. He was a loyal friend and a fierce protector to many.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents and numerous battle buddies. He is survived by his canine companion, Stella; his parents, Ronald and Lee; his siblings, James (Serena), Jason (Laura), Melanie Willis (Michael), Justin (Brielle); aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful hospice nurses and doctors from Compassus. A special thank you to Jon’s aunt, Ellen Stecher, for her help. We couldn’t have done this without you.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 717 18th St. West in Billings. The mass will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend at https://www.stpiusxblgs.org/worship/streaming-mass/ .
The family has requested memorial donations in Jonathan’s name to be sent to Rez Dog Rescue of Montana, Dog Tag Buddies, or Pooch’z B&B.
