Joseph Paul “Chick” Plumage was born on September 5, 1934 to Joseph and Frances (Horn) Plumage.

He was born and raised in Fort Belknap, MT. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1952. He was the last surviving member of the 1951 Harlem Wildcats State Championship Football team.

In 1952, he moved to Missoula, MT to attend college at the University of Montana, where he studied Pre-Law for two years, and played Freshman Football.

October 13, 1954, Chick enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he received the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and Badges for Expert (M-1) and Marksmanship (Pistol).

He was living in Belcourt, N.D., where he met Dolly. They were married on October 11, 1958, and started their family.

In 1970, they moved to Jamestown where Chick worked as a Counselor.

In 1975, they moved to Browning, where he worked for IHS as the Service Unit Director at Browning Hospital.

They moved to Billings in 1981, where he worked as the Assistant Area Director for IHS.

Throughout his life, Chick enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing. He loved his children and grandchildren. He would travel anywhere to watch them compete in sports or support them in their activities.

Chick was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances; his wife, Dolly; Brothers, Arnold, Wendell, Waldo, Tony Paul, and his sister Glorain.

Chick is survived by his children, Jo’Etta, Keefer, Tooners, and Kevin, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
