Karl A. Brekke, 63, of Billings, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at St. Vincent Healthcare, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

He was born on March 11, 1952, in Chicago, to James and Irma Brekke. The family moved to Billings and Karl graduated from Billings West High in 1970. He was married to Cathy Kimble and they had a daughter, Lisa. He later married Michaela Letasky in September 1997.

Karl enjoyed fly fishing, woodworking, hunting, barbecuing, golfing, being a hockey and football fan, listening to and playing music (including being a member of the Caledonian Pipe and Drums), especially his drums. Karl loved his dogs and being with his family. Karl became a full member of the Roman Catholic Church in 2014, and then joined the Knights of Columbus.

Karl is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mickie; daughters Lisa Brekke, Lisa (Abbey) Kochel and Melissa (Alden and Brandon) Jordan; sons John Letasky and Thomas (Rebecca) Letasky; sisters Eve (Matthew and Mark) Boerschinger, Carolyn (Gary) Ostlund, Diane (Joe) Mayer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irma Brekke.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to St. Vincent Pastoral Care, 5 Fortin Nursing Staff, and RiverStone Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard's Parish, St. Vincent Foundation or RiverStone Hospice.

Viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, at St. Bernard's Parish, 226 Wicks Lane. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Mountview Cemetery.
