Kenneth George Schreiner

April 1, 1945 — February 6, 2023

Kenneth George Schreiner, 77, surrounded by loved ones, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 6, 2023, after a 13-year battle with cancer. Ken was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, in Columbus. Ken was the youngest son of Jacob and Maria Schreiner.

Ken grew up farming in the Billings, Laurel area with his siblings, James, Gene and Janice. The family moved to Bridger, where he graduated high school. Ken was very involved in FFA and traveled to the FFA National Convention as a high schooler. Ken grew up hanging out with his cousins whom he adored. Ken was very proud of his family roots and the fact that he was a first generation American.

Ken met the love of his life, Connie, at her sister’s pig pen. They had their first date on Feb. 15, 1969, and were married July 18, 1969. Together, they had six children. Ken was very active in 4-H and Boy Scouts. A lot of family memories revolve around 4-H and showing animals at the county fair. Ken loved being a scoutmaster in the LDS Troop.

Many know him as Kenny. He worked in the construction industry for decades. He was very talented with wood and metal work and shared his talents with others. Ken’s life experiences taught him the value of hard work and integrity. Ken had the gift of gab and could talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime. We always knew it would take longer to go places because Ken was always “gabbing.”

Later in life, Ken spent time hunting and fishing with his buddies. They always had adventures and he treasured his time spent with friends. He was known for making sausage and had requests from others to make more. He loved gardening and was very proud of his big, beautiful tomato plants. It was always a competition to see who could grow the biggest tomatoes. He spent summers irrigating, raising chickens and gabbing.

Ken was a kind, generous man who adored his family and loved spending time with friends. He will be greatly missed by all. We are comforted in the knowledge that he has been reunited with those who have passed before. We were blessed to have him in our lives and are better for it. This is not goodbye. It’s just until we meet again.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents and brother Gene Schreiner. Ken is survived by Connie, his wife of 53 years; son Barry (Faye); daughter Janet (Edward); daughter Laurie (James); son Alex, son Kevin; and daughter Rebecca (Norman); and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother James Schreiner and sister Janice Cassel, as well as extended family whom he loved.

A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2929 Belvedere Drive, Billings.
