Lane William Basso, 82, of Billings, passed away on July 5, 2024.

Lane was born on May 18, 1942, in Glendive, to Francis and Margie Basso. He was raised in Savage and graduated from the University of Montana, after which he forged a successful career as an administrator in healthcare, including 19 years with Deaconess-Billings Clinic. He retired in 1995 as President of Deaconess-Billings Clinic, the largest independent healthcare system in Montana and Wyoming. He also served his community on numerous boards and foundations, most notably the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Montana Board of Directors and the Federal Reserve Board of Directors.

Lane Basso was a trusted, respected leader and a loyal friend. Dependably honest, consistently caring, he was wholeheartedly dedicated to all he did. In how he loved his family, in his professional pursuits, and even in how he managed with illness in recent years, he gave it his all and never gave up.

For all his accomplishments, Lane’s greatest joy was in his family and the life he shared with his wife Cheri for 62 years. Lane is survived by Cheri; daughters Jana Crouse (and husband Mitch) and Michelle Basso; and four beloved grandchildren, Jalen, Dara, Gabrielle and Jonathan. He is also survived by his siblings: brother Gary Basso (wife Pauline), Sheila Franks (late husband Garret), sister Dianne Bunton (late husband Randy), and sister Tamara Warwick (husband Bill); and many loved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, in the Mary Alice Fortin Health Conference Center at Billings Clinic (adjacent to the hospital cafeteria). In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Billings Clinic Foundation or a charity of your choice.
