On September 24, 1928 Clem and Clara Lieser welcomed their twin daughters Lorena and Louise into the world. Born in Slayton, Minnesota, Lorena attended nursing school at St. Mary's in Rochester, Minnesota with her sister. While in nursing school she met Tom Kryzer, her future husband, on a blind date. A year later, Lorena and Tom were married on September 2nd, 1950. They lived in Indiana and Minnesota before moving to Montana in 1973. Lorena and Tom had three children: Mary, Tom, Jr. and Tim. Lorena devoted herself to her children and eventually to her grandchildren.

Lorena was a talented artist expressing herself in oil painting, sewing and poetry. Beginning in the 60's and extending into the 70's, Lorena produced works of art that hang on the walls of her beautiful home. Lorena loved working with the canvas to bring forth an image from nothing. Her ability and devoted attention to detail were never more apparent than in her sewing. She made baptismal gowns for all of her grand children as well as dresses and costumes for virtually every holiday occasion. She also made first communion dresses for children who did not have the means to purchase their own. Her knack for poetry was revealed in her yearly Christmas rhymes. Even after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Lorena continued to delight us all with her wit. Who knew you could rhyme anything with "chemotherapy"?

Lorena loved getting together with people where her sense of humor and boundless energy were always apparent. Golf, skiing, and playing bridge were some of her favorite activities. She and her husband Tom travelled extensively around the world on golfing trips and pilgrimages. Perhaps her greatest love was getting friends and family together for parties. There she was unrivaled in her ability to entertain. Her son's friends, "Her Boys," were frequent visitors at their home sharing in her love for lively conversation.

Lorena was a true matriarch and counselor when times called. You always knew you were at the top of her prayer list when needed. Her spirit and wisdom helped to shape her children's and grandchildren's lives and successes. Her spirit will live on through these young people to future generations.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Tom; twin sister Louise Fishbaugher of Seattle, WA; daughter Mary (Dan) and granddaughter Sarah Johnson of Billings; son Tom, Jr. (Kathy) and granddaughters Michaela, Emily and Alison Kryzer of Wichita, KS; son Tim (Monica) Kryzer of Lake Elmo, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Clara Lieser and brother, Robert Lieser.

Vigil service to be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at Michelotti-Sawyers. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 16 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Rite of Committal will follow mass at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many physicians and staff that helped Lorena with her courageous battle. Rena loved you all. Memorial donations may be made to the Billings Clinic Cancer Center Endowment, c/o Billings Clinic Foundation, P.O. Box 31031, Billings, MT 59107-1031.

We’re so sorry for your loss. We know it was a long hard battle for all of you. I’ll always remember Lorena’s wit and strength. We hope your memories of her & knowing she is now home will get you through the pain of her passing.

Jodi Verbracken & family

We will miss “Rena” deeply and at no times more than the holidays and gatherings of the extended family and friends. Her inquisitive mind, quick wit, sly sense of humor, and the sparkle in her eye brightened every conversation, remarkably even when she was gravely ill. Hers is an indomitable spirit over which “death shall have no dominion.” It lives on in her children and grand children and in their memories and the stories they will tell of her. With deepest sympathy and condolences to Tom Sr. , Mary, Tom, Tim and their families from Peter and Theresa Habein and our family.
