Louis L. Manfredi

The youngest child of Giovanni and Felicita Manfredi, immigrants from Solaro, Italy, Louis Leno Manfredi was born in 1920 on New York City's Lower East Side and blossomed into a baseball, football, and track standout at George Washington High School in New York City. In 1938 he matriculated to Syracuse University where, as a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, he lettered in baseball and football and met his life's love, Marian Hurd of Billings, Montana. After graduating in 1942, Lou served in the US Marine Corps as sergeant at the Battles of Peleliu and Okinawa, after which he married Marian at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York in 1947. His professional life began as a trainee in business administration at RCA Corporation, matured as Personnel Manager at ER Squibb & Sons, and concluded as Manager of Compensation at GAF Corporation. After formally retiring in 1984, Lou practiced his belief in the dignity of labor by working an additional 10 years as a mail room clerk. Always passionate and courageous in his political views, Lou was a Conservative Party candidate in the 1965 New York elections. He contributed time throughout his life to numerous community organizations, including the Stuyvesant Town Little League as coach, the Epiphany Boy Scouts as scoutmaster, and the American Legion at the New York Athletic Club as commander. For nearly 60 years Lou was a member of the New York Athletic Club, where he played handball well into his eighties. Lou's deep devotion to the Catholic Church and the United States of America was only exceeded by a deeper devotion to his wife and two sons, Charles Hurd Manfredi of Billings and John Paul Manfredi of Salt Lake City, with whom he spent every available hour and for whom he would make any sacrifice. Lou relished his position as the gentle uncle of Mary Ruvo Buckley, the proud grandfather of Zo Hurd Manfredi and Chas Boley Manfredi, and the grateful father-in-law of Robin Boley Manfredi and Christine Klein. Funeral service will be at 2PM on June 21 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary at 1001 Alderson Avenue, Billings. Following the service, Lou will be buried alongside his wife Marian, 20 years after her death, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Billings, Montana.
