Ludwig (Louie) Joseph Dauenhauer was born April 22, 1932 to Jacob and Rose (Freidt) Dauenhauer in St. Placidus, N.D. He passed away peacefully on June 6 surrounded by loved ones. Louie was raised in Mott, N.D. on the family farm. He always said, "Mott, the place that God forgot." Hard work was instilled in him at a young age and his work ethic would carry him his whole life. Louie was drafted into the Korean War where he was part of the ski patrol. After returning, he moved to Billings to be near his brothers. There, he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Elaine. They were married on Sept. 28, 1957. Dorothy was a devoted wife throughout her husband illness, and didn't leave his side. Together they were blessed with four children. God continued to bless them with nine wonderful grandchildren and one great grandson. Papa lived for his grandkids and was instrumental in raising his oldest grandson, JJ. Louie had a close group of friends through his career as an ironworker. He was a foreman for R.L. Stratford and later, Hanson and Kelly Construction. He didn't know a stranger and always had a joke or story to tell. He was a dedicated family man and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He was known in his neighborhood of almost 50 years as the "go to guy" for anything that needed fixing, even the neighbor kids tires and bikes. He believed in helping others and his generosity will never be forgotten by the lives he touched. Louie is survived by his wife Dorothy of 57 years, his son's Dale (Susan), Darrell (Karen), Roger (Sheryl) and daughter Lisa (Doug), grandchildren JJ (Alana), Krysten, Josef, Desire'e, Megan, Katelyn, Eric, Brooke and Brennan. He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous siblings and his beloved dog Puggy. A special thank you to his son Dale for years of help and care, also grand daughter Katie for caring for him his final month and making "the best pancakes"& Patty Swain for looking after them on a daily basis. Additionally, thanks to Trudy and Carol at Rocky Mountain Hospice, Canyon Creek Memory Care for their exceptional staff, and finally, Dr. Apostle and staff for all the years of excellent care. Memorial service will be Sat. June 13 at 11am at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Burial with military honors to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
