Lyle G. Newell went to his heavenly home peacefully on March 8, 2023, surrounded by family.
Lyle was born on Aug. 30, 1948, along with his twin brother Lester. Lyle always swore that he was the older of the two. They spent their years as best of friends, causing trouble, playing baseball and running around Colville, Washington, with their buddies and their little brother John. They were the three youngest siblings of a family of 11 children.
Lyle spent his adult years as a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated grandpa and all-around great brother, uncle and friend. Lyle served as a minister for 35 years, changing the lives of numerous people and bringing many people to know Christ. He loved and ministered for as many days as his time on earth allowed him. Lyle was a very positive man and never seemed to let the hard times of this life drag him down; he always knew how to shine the light of Jesus, even when times got rough.
Lyle never met a stranger because everyone he met was a friend as soon as he met them. Throughout the day, you might catch him singing, whistling, smiling, laughing … he was always ready with a funny story or to cheer you with a good, or maybe mediocre, joke.
Lyle enjoyed all sports, whether it was watching them or playing them. He loved baseball and golf, and being outdoors to fish and go hunting, especially with his family. He spent many hours and days hunting with his grandkids and family. Lyle’s life revolved around his family and especially his grandchildren. He was by far their biggest fan and supporter. Lyle’s greatest dream of all was to spend eternity with all of you in his heavenly home.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dortha Newell. Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his children, Gary Newell and (Tim) and Connie Peterson; his siblings, Lester Newell (his twin), John Newell, Bill Newell, Flossy Martin and Franny Neldham; his seven grandchildren, Jake Peterson, Whitney Peterson, Logan Peterson, Jaeger Williams, Austin Peterson, Aleah Peterson and Brianna Newell; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Lyle Newell at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Billings Church of Christ, 1220 10th St. West.
