Surrounded by family, Magdalen Theresa Tobin took her last breath on Jan. 13, 2015.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Martha (Keefe) and Michael Tobin. Dell inherited her strong faith and generous spirit from her parents, natives of Newfoundland's Southern Shore.
Dell learned to speak her mind and stand her ground as one of two women to graduate with a degree in accounting from Queen's College in 1955. Her CPA earned her the role of Comptroller for Scientific American Magazine. Dell enjoyed traveling the world with colleagues. At retirement, she moved to Shepherd to be closer to her best friend, her sister. Dell hosted dinner every New Year's Day for family and friends. She was her mother's tenacious advocate and caregiver, and all of her dogs were indulged.
Dell has been an active member of St. Bernard parish, St. Christopher Circle and the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO). Friends encouraged her to join the Montana Coast Guard Auxiliary and Good Neighbors. She was a member of the Midland Empire Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild, an avid crossword puzzler and winner of Bingo.
Dell is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John, Jim and Mike; sister-in-law Dottie (Jim) Tobin; and two nephews. Dell is survived by her sister, Mary (Don) Pavlish and sister-in-law Bea (John) Tobin. Aunt Dell will be missed by her many nephews, nieces and their children.
A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. A funeral mass will celebrate Dell's life at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Rite of committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Billings.
Dell's family is grateful for the tenderness of the ICU staff at St. Vincent Healthcare.
