Margaret Louise Ashworth ‘Peggy’

Margaret Louise Ashworth, "Peggy," passed away on Oct. 27, 2018, at the age of 89, after saying her goodbyes to close relatives and friends. She was born in Port Angeles, Washington, on June 14, 1929, and raised in Carson, Washington. She would later go on to The University of Washington to pursue a degree in education, where she met her first husband, Gene, when he volunteered to read to her. They married in 1954 and had three children together, Larry, Jille and Teresa.

Peggy taught children with special needs for 21 years in Seattle and, after losing her first husband, moved to Montana, where she became an active member for The Montana Association for the Blind. "Throughout my life, I have had the desire to contribute to the wellbeing of visually impaired people and help them in adjusting to a sighted world."

Born with congenital cataracts, she never let her lack of sight limit her. Peggy's second husband, Lee, whom she married in 1999, helped bring out her adventurous spirit. She deeply loved Lee and his extended family. This enthusiastic grandma of nine traveled the world, never turned down a chance to go camping or spend time at her cabin, and even gave cross-country skiing a try. In her later years, her favorite pastimes were listening to books on tape and spending time outside on her porch swing.

Peggy was also quite the social butterfly, which suited her overall positive and cheerful demeanor. She loved to keep up on current events, have fun with fashion, and find humor in everything, making it easy for her to connect and relate to any generation she crossed paths with. She was especially generous with her time and money, never forgetting to send donations to her favorite charities. To say she will be dearly missed would be an understatement.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave.
