Join us in remembering…
Marie Margaret (Bergsagel) DeWolf, 77, born on May 6, 1947, 10:15am, at Fort Sheridan Army Base in Lake County, Illinois. She entered the everlasting arms of her Savior Jesus, on Friday 21st of March, at 11:49 am after complications arising from diabetes.
Marie’s baby book records her arrival at 8lbs, 7 oz, as the eldest daughter of Col. Ralph M. Bergsagel and Margaret R. (Undheim) Bergsagel, and sister to Errol, Carl, Louis, and Irene.
She graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in 1965. Shortly after, she moved with her family to Southern California. It was there, in a class at Merritt College in Oakland, where she met W. Fred DeWolf, whom she married on September 5, 1970 in Seattle, WA, after studying a year at Fana Folkehøgskule in Bergen, Norway. She graduated with her BA in Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington, where she also taught Norwegian classes and received her MA as well as her fifth-year credentials for teaching.
Marie was married for 27 years. She is survived by her children, Laura Marie in Oregon City, children: Tanner & Nerissa; Alex Fred (and Stacy) in Roundup, MT, children: Trystan, Raef, Tritt, Ryckon; Ryan William, in Thailand; and Justin Mark in Bozeman, MT.
Marie was an active member of Rock of Ages, Lutheran Brethren Church in Seattle, WA, where she taught children’s church, ran the early registration program for Bible Camp, and sang in choir and with the choral group, Praise Singers, for many years.
Marie enjoyed attending theatre, singing, camping, doing puzzles, sewing, creating cards, and scrapbooking. She loved playing games with all her friends and family, and especially with her grandchildren. She had a rich sense of humor and we fondly remember one of her signature sayings: I never met a potato I didn’t like.
She took pride in her work until she retired from YWAM Publishing in 2023. She spent most of her adult life in Seattle, WA among family and friends, until moving to Billings, MT in 2020.
In lieu of flowers, Marie’s family asks that you plant a tree in her memory. A link to the Arbor Day foundation, a favorite of hers, is here: https://www.arborday.org/
