Marjorie "Marge" Kennedy

June 27, 1929 — May 14, 2024

On May 14, 2024, Marjorie “Marge” Kennedy passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, at the age of 94.

Marge blessed the world when she joined the Laulo family on June 27, 1929, in Big Sandy. She grew up on a farm in Loma, Montana, with her siblings, George, Ed, Betty and Ailene. They attended the schoolhouse in Kenilworth, Montana. The girls rode a horse to school and Marge often tried to get the horse to buck Ailene off. She wasn’t successful. She then attended high school in Fort Benton, where she was a cheerleader, graduating in 1947.

After high school, she then attended college in Missoula, where she met the love of her life, Bill Kennedy, on a blind date. They married in Fort Benton in September 1948 and moved to Billings, where they built a house to start a family. David joined the family in 1949, Lynn came along in 1951 and Patrick appeared in 1960.

Marge was a wonderful homemaker who thrived on caring for others. She took pride in making sure her family was well cared for. Marjorie always returned to Loma every year for harvest and enjoyed driving the grain truck. After the kids were grown, she joined the Campfire Girls as a secretary. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping, playing bridge and pinochle, and spending time at the ranch in Columbus. She was fond of events at the Elks Club and summers in Fort Benton. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of who she was. Her sense of humor stayed with her through the end; she misunderstood the priest who came to anoint her, thinking he said he was here to annoy her as opposed to anoint. He responded with, “I’ll leave that to your family.”

Marge was blessed with three grandchildren: Lisa (Dave), Rob (Cindy) and Nicole. She doted on seven great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Marge will be remembered as an incredibly strong and admirable woman. She inspired many with her resilience and determination. Thank you, Mom, for all of your unconditional love and acts of service given to your family. You will be greatly missed.

Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2055 Woody Drive.
