Mark Conlan Longo, 59, of Billings, died peacefully in his home Sept 20th, 2011.

Mark was born December 27, 1951, in Billings. He was the third of five children born to Bernard (Bud) and Nancy (Krupp) Longo. Mark’s dry wit, loyalty, generosity and loving spirit will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

As a child, Mark enjoyed playing outdoors under the Montana sky with his siblings and the neighborhood kids; roaming the rim rocks, riding bikes, ranch work with his sister and initiating countless building projects. Early on, his lifelong interest and talent in building was evident in the boyhood ‘forts’ he built from scrap wood and abandoned construction materials. Friends to this day still marvel at their sophistication and quality in the same way they later admired the fine cabinetry and furniture he made in his home wood working shop.

He attended Fratt Elementary and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He graduated from Montana State University in 1976 with a BA in Liberal Arts. Mark worked as a sales rep. in the contracting and mining business and later worked in the oil industry as a landman before operating his home inspection business.

Mark met and married Jodi Swanson in 1990. Their combined talents made for a beautiful home, whose picture perfect lawn and magnificent gardens were enjoyed by family and friends over many years at special occasions and family reunions. During their 20 years together they shared their love for travel, photography and the beauty of nature. The home they built was enhanced by Mark’s architectural talents and fulfilled his dream of having a park in his back yard.

He was an excellent skier, bad golfer, and skilled craftsman. Most of all he was a son to his father, and a kind and caring brother and uncle. As toddlers, his nieces and nephews looked forward to his visits and greeted him with open arms and a "hello unka Maawk!” Mark created endearing nicknames for relatives and pets. He kept us all laughing with his characterizations. Mark was a man whose self -deprecating humor acknowledged his all too human frailties.

Mark is preceded in death by his father and mother Bud and Nancy. He is survived by his former wife Jodi Swanson; sisters, Vonnie Longo, and Betsy (Chris) Gordon; brothers ,Peter (Sheree) and Bud Jr. (Teresa); nieces and nephews Seth (Morgan) Yellowfox, Kathryn, Edward, Kirby, Alexander, Sophia and Max Longo, Chrissa and Anna Gordon; stepmother Virginia Longo; stepsisters Linda (Todd) Baugh, Carol (Roger) Rohr; stepbrother Michael Roseberry and their children.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 27, at St. Patrick’s Co-Cathedral. Rite of Committal will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Hospice caregivers and friends who helped during this time.
