Mark Alan McLaughlin

With his family at his side, Mark Alan McLaughlin passed away on February 15, 2025, after a more than 20- year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Mark was born in Midland, Texas on April 24, 1974, to Raelene (O’Keefe) McLaughlin and Rick McLaughlin. One year later, along with his new sister Rainie, he moved with his family to Cody, Wyoming, then to Bakersfield, California and finally to Billings. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1992. He attended Montana Tech where he earned a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering. He furthered his education by earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Montana State University.
Mark had an adventurous spirit. He traveled to Ireland (twice), where he met several relatives of surname McLaughlin and O’Keefe. Other trips included the Australian Outback, the Caribbean and Washington D.C. with his sister and cousin Mike.
Mark was a lifelong fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He cheered on the Bo-Sox at Fenway Park and attended multiple football games at the University of Notre Dame. He loved to play golf with his family at Laurel Golf Club and with his Grandfather Mick McLaughlin at the Butte Country Club.
He learned to fly and loved the peacefulness of being above the clouds.
A constant presence in Mark’s life were to special neighbors, Marvin and Charlotte Nyberg, who loved him like a grandson.
Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents Ray and Bernie O’Keefe, Mick and Dolores McLaughlin and his cousin Maurie McLaughlin. He is survived by his parents, sister, beloved Aunt Margy Hirschy, aunts and uncles Mike (Ann) O’Keefe, Mike (Kim) McLaughlin, Terry (Connie) McLaughlin, great aunts Judie McLaughlin and Betty McLaughlin and many cousins.
Services will be held in Butte on April 24, 2025, at 11:00am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
