Martha “Mart” Victoria Fregger nee Shogren was 92 years old when she passed away from pneumonia in Puyallup, Wash. on Dec. 22, 2011.
She was born in Billings on April 19, 1919, to Olaf and Josephine Shogren. She was one of 12 children and is survived by three sisters, Alberta, Avis and Iona.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Elmer, Allen, Montana, Anna (Anne), Virginia, Edwin, Carl, and Paul.
She graduated from Billings High School and Billings Business College. She was married to Roland “Rolly” Fregger on April 1, 1939, who preceded her in death on March 10, 2007, after an almost 68-year marriage.
In 1938, she was one of four delegates (representing Montana) to the National 4-H Club Camp in Washington D.C. She was a secretary/housewife during her working life and retired as the Santa Clara County (Calif.) Board of Supervisors stenographer/secretary.
She had many and varied interests, some of which were painting (oil), sewing, Japanese flower arranging (Ikebana), home decorating, and architectural drawing. After taking community college classes in San Jose, Calif., she designed and drew the full working plans to build two of her and Rolly’s homes (Aptos, Calif., and Magalia, Calif.). During her life she moved over 32 times, making good friends wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Jeffrey Fregger.
She is survived by her two sons, Bradley Fregger, Dennis Fregger and their wives; her grandchildren Jon Fregger, Bryn Chernek, Renée Hewitt and David Fregger; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Martha’s interment is on Jan. 2, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.
