Mary Margaret ‘Marg’ Nickisch

Mary Margaret "Marg" Nickisch passed away on March 6, 2018, at age 92, surrounded by her loving family in Billings.

Marg was born in May 1925, in Butte, to William and Anna Hill. She met the love of her life, Frederick "Fred" Nickisch, whom she married in August 1948 after his service in the United States Army during World War II. Marg and Fred lived in Butte, where she gave birth to their nine children. Fred's profession then took them on many adventures across the country (Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas), ending in Forsyth in 1972, where Marg served as Rosebud County Assessor for 10 years before retirement. After her husband's death, Marg enjoyed traveling with friends and, in 2008, she moved to Billings, where she continued her love of playing Scrabble, bridge and pinochle with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marg is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Jay Nickisch; her son, William George Nickisch; her parents, William and Anna Hill; her brothers, Joe and Billy Hill; and her sister, Esther Hill-Warford. Marg is survived by her children, John Nickisch (Brenda), Mary Marceau (Frank), Joe Nickisch (Lisa Forsberg), Terry Nickisch (Yvette), Sue Hannah (Rich), Kathy Giesick (Scott), Dan Nickisch (Christie), Steve Nickisch (Kristi); daughter-in-law Maggie Nickisch Shannon (George); 29 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Billings Food Bank, Senior Independence of Montana, or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 2055 Woody Drive.
