Mildred Clemmons was born on Sept. 20, 1921, in Rice Lake, Wis., the youngest of four children born to Anton and Carrie (Johnson) Moe.
Her early life was very difficult due to losing her mother at the age of 10.
She was married to Roger Clemmons in November 1939 in Nashua, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. To this union, four children were born: Roger (Toni) Clemmons, Billings; Valerie (Mike) Herzog, Livingston; Marybeth (Al) Wetsch, Post Falls, Idaho; and David (Jolene) Clemmons, Bismarck, N.D. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Helen Moe of Clear Lake, Wis.; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 1975; her brothers, Ronald and Elroy Moe; her sister, Helen Hansen; and her grandson, Martin Burt Clemmons.
Mom was one of the earliest believers in recycling, never throwing away things that she believed there might be a use for in the future. She kept her thermostat at 60 degrees, even in the midst of the coldest Montana winters, only turning it up when visitors were expected. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting and watching TV, especially sporting events.
Mom loved to shop, especially when Valerie and Marybeth came to Billings, as she could browse her was through Wal-Mart and Michael's, looking for the latest in crafting patterns and products.
Thank you to Mary Dietrich, who took Mom on trips to Gates of the Mountains and to other events in and around Billings and Yellowstone County while she was a resident of Rim Shadows Assisted Living.
The family wants to express its gratitude to the staff of the emergency room and 3 Tower, St. Vincent Hospital; RiverStone Hospice; and especially to the caring staff of Autumn Springs Assisted Living: Doris, Velvet, Erica, Michelle, Carol and all of the nursing care professionals who helped make Mom's last years comfortable and happy.
A family graveside service will be held in Chetek, Wis., at a later date.
