Misti Michelle Summerlin (Brown), 49, of Billings, passed away on Dec. 15, 2023, in her home. She was born in Lander, Wyoming, on Aug. 10, 1974. She moved to Billings in October of 2004.
Misti was known to all as the Energizer Bunny. She began her battle with leukemia at just 3 years old. She fought this three times until she went into remission in adulthood. In adulthood, she had a beautiful daughter, Shelby. She battled skin cancer, thyroid cancer, and meningiomas her entire adult life. This never slowed her down. She was known to love hard and love strong all who were grateful enough to cross her path.
Misti helped all who came into her life. Whether that was volunteering at every thrift store and shelter in the Billings area or ensuring troubled kids had a warm meal for the night. If someone needed help, she would do everything in her power to give them the shirt off her back. Her main time has always been spent with countless hours of crafting. Knitting scarves, making gifts for friends and family, or even small projects in her house. She loved creating everything she could. She spent every minute she could crafting with her two granddaughters. She loved being a grandmother. Her face lit up with pure joy whenever they were in the room.
Special thanks to Nancy’s Place and RiverStone Hospice and staff who cared for Misti for two years leading to her final moments. Thank you to Dr. Couldwell, Dr. Bybee, and all of the University of Utah for outstanding care over a 46-year battle. Thank you to all the family and friends who visited over the last few years, especially her Aunt Donna who went almost every day, and Cousin Jill who cared for her in Utah.
Misti is survived by many family members, including her daughter, Shelby Sederberg (husband Dan Sederberg); father Tim Brown; sister Robyn Brown; aunt Donna Harrell (Tom Harrell); uncle Larry Zaharko (Pam Zaharko); and many extended family, bonus family and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Janice Brown; nephew Gerritt Swiftney; grandparents, Jake and Wilma Zaharko and Doris Brown; and her partner, James Gregory.
Misti’s funeral will be held in Billings at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Her burial will proceed at 2 p.m. in Melstone, Montana, where she will be laid to rest next to her mother, whom she longed for each and every day. To celebrate her life, we invite you to join her family at the Melstone Community Center, where food, drink, and stories can be shared to celebrate the wonderful life Misti had.
