Nicholas "Nick" James Rub

December 22, 1982 — March 21, 2025

Nicholas J. Rub, age 42, of Billings, Montana was born on December 22, 1982, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of James T. Rub and Linda (Gross) Rub. Nick attended and graduated from Lemon Monroe High School in Ohio in 2001, received the Jessie Mayhab Scholarship, and had perfect attendance all four years.

Nick was a devoted, dedicated, and smart individual. All through school, Nick never carried any books or ever took any notes. His teachers used to be concerned that this might affect his grades, but not Nick. On test days, he would walk right in and ace the test. His teachers were blown away. He was someone who could just sit and listen to something and just have it embedded in his brain and never forget a thing. He was truly gifted. From kindergarten through his last day in college, he never missed a day of school. Fun Fact - When Nick was a kid, he would pretend to be well just so he could go to school. He didn't want to miss a thing. People who knew him knew his passion for soccer. He was such a great player.

Nick continued his education and attended RETS Technical College (Now Fortis) in Centerville Ohio from 2001-2003, earning an Associates Degree in Computer Information Technology. Nick received multiple awards including: the Highest Honors Award, Outstanding Achievement Award, Microsoft Office Users Specialist Certification (Expert Level), and again had Perfect Attendance. Nick then moved to Billings Montana to pursue his career in Computer Programming and Information Technology from 2003 to 2014 for A.W.A.R.E Inc., while also working at his second job at Godfather Pizza. From 2014 to 2024, Nick worked for Yellowstone County as a Developer. In January 2025, Nick was promoted to Yellowstone County IT Assistant Director and was shadowing the current IT Head Director for the future role. Nick received a High-Performance Leadership Master Certificate in 2024 from the Professional Development Academy and was continuing online leadership classes. Nick also received his US Soccer National D license for coaching soccer in 2023. He was a very passionate coach for the soccer clubs in Billings for 15 years. Nick loved coaching soccer and supporting the many kids he coached.

In 2009, Nick met Milisa Mossett, the love of his life, and they raised their two daughters, Morning Grace Spotted Bear and Faith Rub, and built their first home together. Nick was and will always be so proud of his daughters for the dedication and skill they both brought to whichever sport they played as well as in their academics.

Nick is survived by his mother Linda Rub, significant partner Milisa Mossett of 16 years, two daughters Morning Grace Spotted Bear and Faith Rub, sister Jeanette (Tom) Weller, his nieces Erin Jackson, Leina Hayes, Lyla Hayes, Ivy Jackson, Jennifer Rub, Codi Jackson, and Katrina Rub, nephews Kevin Rub, Ian Jackson, Jordan Weller, and Daniel Rub. He is also survived by many more aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father James T. Rub, Grandparents Lorine and Elize Keeton, Grandfather Edward A. Rub, and his brother Thomas Rub.

He will be missed by so many.

"In my spare time, all my activities revolve around my family. I enjoy every minute I get to spend with them no matter if it is at home or on the field with the kids. I have coached soccer for the past fifteen years. One of my personal passions is coaching and sports. I recently obtained my U.S. Soccer National Coaching License".
