Norberto “Bert” Lopez

On Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, we lost Norberto “Bert” Lopez, at the age of 61. His daughter Hallee was by his side.

Bert was born on Oct. 25, 1959, in Powell, Wyoming, to parents Manuel and Irma Lopez. He was the eldest to four sisters: Edna, Amanda, Maria and Alicia. His parents were farmers from Texas who moved to the Powell area to break soil. He learned the meaning of hard, honest work at a young age under the guidance of his father.

As a child, Bert always enjoyed his trips to the local barber. They left a lasting impression on him. Soon after high school, he packed his bags and moved to Billings, where he attended cosmetology school. It was there he met Teresa Tafoya. What started as a friendship led to marriage in August 1984. Bert and Teresa owned a hair salon together, Razzle Dazzle, where their girls Hallee and Madison spent time in baby backpacks and bouncy chairs while they cut hair. Bert loved his job. He was born to converse. He had the gift for gab. He made lifelong clients and lifelong friends through his work. Bert was a hairstylist for 42 years.

Bert loved his hobbies. When he found something he enjoyed, he was all in. He loved to golf. He had the ambition to go pro and he worked hard at it practicing and playing every spare minute. Bert also loved to be outdoors. Camping, fishing, hunting, firearms and target practice all became a passion.

His greatest passion of all though was his family. Nothing would get in the way of a ball game, dance recital, school music concert, and family dinner that would take place at least three times a week.

Bert is survived by his daughters Hallee Lopez-Knox and Madison Kaiser. He is father-in-law to Kyle Knox and Ryan Kaiser; grandfather “Papa” to Trenton Porter, Deven LaVe, Izabella Bertino, Berkleigh Kaiser, and Saleen Knox; brother to Amanda Lopez-Godard, Maria Lopez-Robbins, and Edna Snyder, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Irma Lopez; and his sister, Alicia Lopez Ayala.

Bert left us too soon. His contagious smile, his conversations, his wanting to google everything to make sure he had the correct information. He strived to always help friends and family. He will be forever missed.

Our hearts are broken. We have faith he has wrapped his wings around us. We love you, Bert. Until we meet again.

Please help us celebrate Bert’s life at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Faith Evangelical Church, 3145 Sweet Water Drive, with a continued celebration to follow at Yellowstone Country Club, 3200 Paul Allen Way.
