On May 28, 2012, our beloved Norma Peers passed away peacefully in the arms of her loved ones.
Born on Feb. 22, 1928, in Laurel, to Joe and Edith Price, Norma Olive Price set Southeastern Montana ablaze with her active spirit. After graduating from Laurel High School, she met and married Howard Sidney Peers of Missoula, and later gave birth to their only child: Randy. Though married and a mother, Norma didn't slow down. She was instrumental in establishing and playing women's slow-pitch softball in Billings, was a 13-year member of the American Legion State Champion Drill team, and later became a charter member of the Laurel Golf Club. As if this weren't enough, she bowled for 60 years, eventually being inducted into the Billings Bowlers' Hall of Fame based on performance. She loved music and harmonized beautifully, had a voracious appetite for reading and self-improvement, and maintained her faith through a Course in Miracles and her membership at Unity Church of Christianity.
People remember Norma Peers best for her vitality and sense of humor. As brilliantly alive and blue as her eyes were, they were no match for her personality. Ever positive and spirited, Norma was rarely ill, weak or down; instead, along with her sisters Phyllis and Wanda, she entertained and uplifted. Well into her 80s, she amazed everyone with her youthfulness as her chronological age remained a mystery.
Norma's legacy is one of patience, love and acceptance. As a grandmother, she seemed to make everything right. With her, no injustice, pain or hardship existed. Nothing could penetrate the haven she created for those she loved, especially grandchildren Vanessa, Jared and Aidan, and son Randy. She leaves us knowing the true meaning of love.
Those preceding her in death include husband Howard Sidney Peers and sister Wanda Jones. Norma is survived by her son, Randy Peers (Heather); grandchildren Vanessa, Jared and Aidan; beloved sister Phyllis Worthington; nieces Candy Capp (Jerry), Denise Kelly (George) Linda Montiero (Dom), Janice Phares (Mike), Nicole Croaker and daughter Peyton, Gina Masella; nephews Ryan Jackson (Mary Ann) and children John and Josie, Scott Weis and children Derek and Alecia, Kyle Handley and children Rylie and Sawyer.
Services for Norma will be held at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary at 2 pm. Monday, June 4, with Richard Stone officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norma's honor to Unity Church of Christianity, 9 14th St. W., Billings, MT 59102.
