Patricia E. Hayes Bertrand

Patricia E. Hayes Bertrand passed away at her home of 62 years in Billings, on Oct. 22, 2018, just six days after her only sibling, Carroll Catherine Hayes Felch, passed away. She was 85. Patricia "Pat" was born in Walla Walla, WA, on Nov. 11, 1932. Her parents were John Francis and Darl Allen Hayes. She grew up on her "beloved" family ranch in Walla Walla, where she had fond memories of picking berries with her sister.

Pat attended Dixie Elementary School, which was near their home. Not long after the passing of her mother in 1943, both she and her sister left Walla Walla to attend a private girls' school, Holy Names Academy in Spokane. In turn, she attended college at Holy Names.

While in college in Spokane, she met William Francis Bertrand. They married on Oct. 9, 1954, in Walla Walla and were married until his death on Sept. 30, 2009. Their union was blessed with five children.

She was a charter member of St. Pius X Church, where she sang in the choir and was actively involved in St. Anthony's Circle for many years. Her passions included music, gardening and the outdoors.

Those left to love and remember her include sons John (Marteann), Ed (Diane), Ted and Elliot (Kim), all of Billings; daughter Therese of Washington State; grandchildren Chris (Amber), Robert, Ashley and Haley; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Isla Grace.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Pius X Church, 717 18th St. West. Rite of committal will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Pius X church or the charity of one's choice.
