This obituary was written by Pauline Hartman, at some time prior to her death.
I was born April 22, 1927, in a farmhouse on the Stillwater River, about nine miles from Columbus. My mother and father, Edward Nichol and Fannie Petosa Nichol, had two other children at the time of my birth: My sister Mildred and my brother Jack. Two years later, my mother gave birth to my sister Mary. We spent eight years in a one-room country school called Lower White Bird. I then attended high school in Columbus and graduated in 1945.
I found work in Billings and I lived there for the rest of my life. I worked at Willis Sales for over 20 years, and then Star Office Machines for several years. I then worked at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local #30 until my retirement.
I had one son, Larry Romee, Jr., who died in an auto accident at the age of 17 years. In spite of this loss, and the selection of two husbands of poor character, and the retirement of Larry Bird from the Celtics, I have led a very happy life.
Since my retirement, I have worked in reading programs at Billings area schools for 20 years. I have been active in the Big Sky Optimist Club, and in the Boys and Girls Club Boosters since 1985. I have always loved playing cards and have done so with many groups of friends. I have always loved cats, and have had cats all my life. I love gardening and collecting antiques, and have done many shows and flea markets for many years.
I have been fortunate in my life to be relatively healthy and content with what I have been given. I have always been able to ignore anything that I didn't like and can pick up a book and forget my cares. You have to learn to accept what happens to you, turn over a new leaf, and start over again!
I thank God every day for all my blessings and hope when I leave this earth that I will have done some good for children. Also, I hope my house and yard are in shape!
I hope I am over 90 years old when this is being read!
