On June 7, Phyllis was reunited with her husband, Chester, of 56 years. Phyllis was born July 22, 1919 in Whitehall, Montana to John and Myrtle Sullender. There she was raised with six brothers and two sisters. Phyllis's major goal in life was to support her family. To do this she had a variety of jobs. Chester and Phyllis were married March 8, 1949 in Bozeman, Montana. They then resided on the Jensen family farm on Poverty Flats, near Edgar. Phyllis brought 2 children into this marriage, Ramona and Robert Raincloud. Fred and Penny were soon added and made the family 6.
Mom was known for her cooking and helped feed the thrashing crews at harvest time......everyone looked especially forward to her apple pies, fried chicken and home made rolls. Sunday's was a time to gather the family with traditional Sunday dinners. She loved it when Ramona would bring the kids up for the weekend. If not gathering at the table, we all loaded into cars and went fishing at Sage Creek. Family and friends were always welcome. Mom and Dad remained the family farm on Poverty Flats until 1969 when they moved into Joliet. For many years, Mom and Dad enjoyed dancing, pinochle and competing in cribbage tournaments. In the early 1970's, Chester and Phyllis moved to their new home on Phillip Street in Billings. Following this move, Mom became active in the Southside Senior Center and was there almost on a daily basis.
Phyllis spent the last few years living at Aspen Meadow Nursing Facility. She made many new friends there who will miss her dearly.
Her beloved husband, Chester, four brothers, one sister, an infant son and one son-in-law precede her in death. Mom is survived by daughter, Ramona Breshears, son, Fred and daughter Penny (Jon) Haynes, two brothers and one sister. She also leaves 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 11am in the Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary Chapel on 10th and Alderson. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the Rockvale Cemetery. A reception will follow at 2pm in the Southside Senior Center. Contributions in her name may be made to the Senior Center.
We will miss her dearly and will hold her in our hearts forever.
