It was at a 4th of July weekend picnic on July 3, 1932, when Clara Sisco started feeling a little sick. She thought it was because she had eaten too much watermelon, but it was actually time for Phyllis Marie to make her entrance into the world.
Phyllis Marie (Sisco) Vannoy passed gently into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 26, 2022. Phyllis was born on July 3, 1932, to Floyd and Clara (Riecken) Sisco in Bridger, Montana. She spent her early years moving with her parents, following the oil fields where her father worked. In 1937, she was joined by her sister Myrna Joy.
Finally settling in Worland, Wyoming, she met future husband Jack Vannoy in eighth grade. As Jack recounts, “as soon as Phyllis walked into the classroom, I knew she was the one. I took my notebook, on which I’d written my current girlfriend’s name, scratched it out, and wrote ‘Phyllis’ in its place.” Jack was to become the love of her life. They were married on Dec. 30, 1951, after Jack returned from service in Korea. Their marriage lasted over 70 years and, during that time, they welcomed four children: Steven, Jackie, Matthew and Christina. Over the course of those 70 years together, Jack and Phyllis experienced many wonderful times, especially traveling all over the United States. But she always said there was no place like her beloved Montana. There was tragedy as well, most notably the loss of their daughter Jackie at age 5.
For many years she worked side-by-side with her husband, founding and growing Vannoy Heating and Air Conditioning. Later, in retirement, she enjoyed tutoring children, doing needlepoint, working puzzles, and was an avid Bridge player. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt and great aunt beloved by many. Phyllis always seemed to come into people’s lives just when they needed her and could always be depended on, no matter the need right up until her final days.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Jackie Marie. She is survived by her husband Jack, three children, her sister, a large extended family and her treasured dog Sisco.
We rejoice in her life and that she is now reunited with our beloved Jackie.
If desired, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
