Phyllis Price Worthington

After living an extraordinary life filled with love and laughter, our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Phyllis Price Worthington, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2019, in her home of 63 years.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1923, to Edith Kramer and Joseph Price in Cando, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was raised in an extremely loving home in Laurel. She was always grateful for the wonderful parents and idyllic childhood she had with her family.

She married Jack Nichol and two girls were born to that union, Candy and Denise. She later married Joe Worthington and remained with him until his death. In later years, she was a secretary at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #30 until retirement. She and her sisters, Wanda and Norma, the "Price Girls," were a trio to be remembered if you liked to sing, dance and have fun.

Mom was the captain of the State Champion American Legion Auxiliary drill team for 13 years, of which she was quite proud. They also competed in National Competitions. The team literally marched miles in summer parades in wool uniforms!

The "Price Girls" were instrumental in establishing and playing Women's Slo-Pitch Softball. Mom played first base and was nicknamed "Stretch" because of her nimble athleticism. They bowled together for more than 60 years, and were inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame based on performance. In all those years, she rarely missed her bowling nights. Giving up bowling in her 90s was very sad for her.

Mom was a charter member of the Laurel Golf Club. She loved watching Tiger Woods on TV and was thrilled with his recent comeback!

Mom's closest relationship in her life was with her beloved sister, Norma. They were fondly called the "Snoop Sisters," and for good reason! They did everything together and were never apart until Norma's passing.

Mom had a capacity for giving love that was unparalleled. She loved us all unconditionally … never judging or criticizing, always showing heartfelt understanding and compassion.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; sisters Wanda Jones and Norma Peers; and most of her friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Candy Capp (Jerry) and Denise Kelly (George); grandchildren, Nicole Croaker and Ryan Jackson (Marry Ann); great-grandchildren, Peyton Croaker, John Jackson and Josie Jackson; nieces Linda Montiero (Dom) and Janice Phares (Mike); nephew Randy Peers (Heather). She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to her niece, Linda, for all the kindness and love she has shown to our mother for many years.

A celebration of Phyllis's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Elks Lodge, 934 Lewis Ave.
