Richard "Dick" Livingston Gall died Sept. 10, 2018, in Billings, at 84 years of age.
Born in Mexico, Missouri, on Aug. 9, 1934, he was the second of two children of George and Hattie Gall.
Dick grew up in rural Missouri, excelling in sports and loving the outdoors. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1952 and from the University of Missouri in 1956 in Business and Public Administration. Dick belonged to the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
He served in the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant, stationed primarily in Newfoundland, Canada. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
Dick married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sarah "Sally" Carter on June 9, 1956. Together, they raised three sons: Stephen, Daniel and Andrew. He worked in industrial sales for Kaiser Refractories for over 30 years. When Sally passed in 1983, Dick didn't remarry; instead, he devoted himself to his church food pantry in Overland Park, Kansas, and to Habitat for Humanity.
When his health necessitated a change in avocation, he took up walking. After moving to Billings in 2007, he became a regular at Rimrock Mall, typically walking 10 miles per day and 2,000 miles annually.
Dick was a gentle soul and always offered a cheerful greeting to anyone who passed his way.
He is survived by his sister, Georgie Gall Cowan, Florida; three sons, Stephen, Colorado, Daniel (Karen), Montana, Andrew (Laura), Colorado; four grandchildren, Sam, Mira Gall Thompson, Carter and Hayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Dick's life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at First Presbyterian Church, 2420 13th St. W. in Billings. Interment will follow in Mexico, Missouri at a later date.
