Robert Willard Donaldson III, a beloved son, brother, father, and esteemed member of his community, passed away on April 19, 2025, in Billings, Montana, at the age of 76. Born on September 15, 1948, in Havre, Montana, Robert lived a life full of purpose, service, and commitment to both his country and his family.
As a proud Vietnam military veteran, Robert served with honor in the Army Aviation. His dedication to his country was recognized with three Bronze Service Stars and the Gallantry Cross, achievements that reflect his bravery and commitment to serve.
Robert pursued education with determination, attending Havre High School before continuing his studies at Montana State University in Bozeman, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He built a successful career as an entrepreneur, exemplifying hard work and perseverance.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was known for his deep passions and interests. An avid golfer, he cherished the time spent on the golf course, where he fostered friendships and shared joyful moments. A car enthusiast, he had a keen appreciation for automobiles that often served as a connection to his interests and a way to bond with others.
Robert's community involvement was significant; he was a dedicated member of Faith Chapel and actively participated in various organizations, including the Masonic Lodge, VFW Post 1634, Scottish Rite, and Albedoo Shrine. His commitment to these groups reflected his desire to help others and make a positive impact in his community.
He is survived by his son, Robert Donaldson IV, who carries forward his father's legacy. Robert was also the loving brother to Deanna Sommers and Brian Donaldson, as well as the late Bruce Donaldson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Willard Donaldson II and Marion Kathleen Donaldson, and his brother Bruce, who he held dear in his heart.
A graveside service to honor Robert's life will be held on April 29, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel, Montana. This gathering will serve as a moment for family and friends to come together, remember, and celebrate his remarkable life and the memories they shared.
Robert will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
