Robert Clifton Fenton

Dad passed away at his home from Parkinson's disease on Nov. 21, 2017. Robert Fenton was born on Feb. 4, 1926, in Orlando, Florida, to Edgar Fenton and Totsie Owen.

He grew up in Lodge Grass and attended school until he was 17 to enlist in the Navy SeaBees during World War II. He served in Okinawa and China. He was discharged in July 1946.

He married Vurpel Parish on Jan. 21, 1947. To this union, three children were born.

He worked most of his life as a diesel mechanic at various shops in Billings. He was forced to retire early due to allergies to petroleum products. He remained very active into his late 80s, doing various jobs, chopping wood, and he loved playing pool in the Moose Lodge league.

Dad was full of life, and he loved to hunt and fish and did so until he no longer could. In 2013, he had the privilege of participating in the honor flight to Washington, D.C. He was so proud to be able to go and be acknowledged for his service to America.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and all eight of his siblings. They include Tom Fenton, Bernice Kraus, Minnie Van Scotter, Juanita Miller, Evelyn Mayo, Don Fenton, Clara Young and Marie Lindsey of Florida.

He is survived by his children, Rita Stovall (Greg and family), Bob Fenton (Pam and family), Becky Boehm (Cal and family); seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion and primary caregiver, Martha Black; a sister-in-law, Judy Fenton; and by Gene Kuntz. There are numerous nieces and nephews whom he also loved.

A huge thanks to Synergy and Compassus Hospice Care that expanded Dad's life. He had great caregivers during this difficult struggle and, with their help, we were able to keep him home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Burial will follow in the Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel. Reception to follow.
