Robert W. Richardson

Robert W. "Bob" Richardson passed away on April 6, 2016. He was born in Watford City, N.D., on May 2, 1923, to Ted and Stella Richardson. He went into the service in 1942 and was shipped to the South Pacific for about 33 months. In 1948, he went to work for Katie Davis as a deputy clerk of the district court. He held this position until 1950, at which time he was elected as Yellowstone County Treasurer. In 1955, he then went to work for First Federal Savings & Loan. He retired as president in 1983.

He had done considerable real estate appraising while at First Federal and, upon retirement, he started an independent appraisal service and did this for about 20 years.

On Nov. 21, 1946, he married Jane Hyde of Billings. They have two children, Tom of Portland, Ore., and Barbara of Sparks, Nev.; three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

They enjoyed traveling, having been to Europe twice, the Panama Canal and Hawaii, and played golf in Scotland.

He was exalted ruler of the local Elks Lodge and a district deputy for the Grand Lodge of Elks, a past president of the Lions, the Billings Studio Theatre, lifetime member of the American Legion, member of Knights of Columbus, served as treasurer of the Yellowstone Country Club, president of the Montana State Seniors Golf Association and president of the State Savings & Loan League.

One of his most happy memories was of the good times that he had as a member of "The Great Pretenders," a pantomime group that appeared in the larger cities in Montana and Wyoming. The other three members were Dr. Jim McBride, Dale Cowger and Norton Gainan.

A mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2055 Woody Drive.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. Thomas Building Fund.
