Rodrick Lynn Abercrombie died suddenly April 21, 2007 at his home in Billings. He was 62 years old. Rod was born November 16, 1944 in Long Beach, California to Robert and Shirley (Hagman) Abercrombie. Rod grew up in Southern California graduating from Millikan High School, Long Beach in 1962. He later enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at the Glasgow (MT) Air Force Base. It was is in Glasgow that he began to fall in love with Montana and years later returned to stay. Rod married Linda Carner in Long Beach and had two children Carrie and Ryan. The couple later divorced.
Rod loved the outdoors, bird hunting and fishing. He was active in Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed spending time with his German Shorthhair Pointers (G.S. P.), Chance, Saco, Darlin, Beau, and Cooper. Rod was instrumental in starting the G.S.P. Club. Rod will be remembered as a very outgoing person who loved people and was willing to help when they had a need.
Rod is survived by his companion and love of his life Carol Nelson. His is also survived by his children Carrie Abercrombie and Ryan Abercrombie, his mother Shirley Mason, his father Robert and step-mother Flo, his sister Gail Abercrombie and brother-in-law Mark Dreiling. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive him.
A memorial service to celebrate Rod's life will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.
