Russel "Russ" A. Neuheardt

December 3, 1943 — October 12, 2022

Russel “Russ” A. Neuheardt passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2022, surrounded by family, at the age of 78 years old.

He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, on Dec. 3, 1943, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Elsie and Jack Doll. They moved to Billings when Russ was a child, where he lived the remainder of his life. Russ attended Central Catholic High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and life partner, Donna Martinson. The two later wed on May 9, 1961. They had three beautiful children during their union: Rod, Kelli and Scott Neuheardt, respectively.

Russ worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. As a young adult, he worked at Lang’s Cemetery Service and later found a passion for sales. Russ invested in careers at Schwan’s Home Delivery, Monfort Inc., and later car sales at a number of dealerships in Billings. He spent the greater part of his career working for Subaru of Billings, where he retired in 2006.

Russ had a love for the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. When his children were young, he and his family took many fishing and camping trips to Deadman’s Basin. Later, Russ and Donna would take day trips to Cooney Dam, bringing along their grandkids whenever they were able. Russ also had a true talent for gardening. He and Donna put a great amount of time and dedication into their seasonal vegetable garden, sharing the fruits of their labor with those around them. He also enjoyed canning pickles and making one-of-a-kind salsa made from the vegetables from his garden with his loved ones. No one ever left his house hungry or without a jar of each. Nothing beat Russ’s true love for his family and the Lord.

Russ was blessed with three children, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and loved them all dearly. He enjoyed every moment with them and will be remembered for his grand smile when his family was around. Russ was a devoted Catholic, and we know his homecoming with Jesus was nothing short of celebration, comfort, and healing.

Russ is survived by his wife, Donna; sons, Rod (Kathleen) Neuheardt and Scott (Stephanie) Neuheardt; daughter, Kelli (Berry) Roberts; 12 grandchildren, Andrew Roberts, Joshua Roberts, Taylor Chase (Roberts), Caitlin Neuheardt, Anna Neuheardt, Joe Neuheardt, Margaret Neuheardt, Pete Neuheardt, Cecilia Neuheardt, Brigid Neuheardt, Zach Neuheardt, and Riley Neuheardt; and four great-grandchildren, Ally Schlepp, Trace Chase, Tripp Chase and Teague Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 2055 Woody Drive. Rite of committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. A gathering will be held in celebration of Russ’s life following the burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” We love you so much and will continue to miss you until we meet again.
