Long time Billings school teacher Ruth D. Harvey, 90, passed away May 5, 2006 at Billings Clinic.

Ruth was born to Burtis and Emma Harvey on December 27, 1915 in LaMoure, ND and grew up in Hackensack, MN. Even though she was a Montana resident for over 62 years, she had fond memories of Minnesota and the one room school house she taught in at Woman Lake in her early years.

Her teaching career started in Minnesota when she was 22 years of age. In 1943 she received her Elementary School Certificate from St. Cloud State Teachers College, 1949 a BA Degree from E.M.C. and in 1960 her Masters from E.M.C. Ruth taught in Minnesota for seven years and thirty-three years in Billings schools that included Taft, Easter, Highlands and Washington schools. She had wonderful stories about her “kids” and her teaching experiences over the years. Her last topic of conversation being about teaching.

Although Ruth never married, she helped raise her five nieces and nephews after her sister moved to Billings. It was our good fortune to have an Aunt that was a school teacher as she was always helping someone with homework.

Surviving Ruth is her sister Effie Whitmore, nephews Neal (Linda) Whitmore, Art (Robin) Whitmore, Ross (Paulette) Whitmore, Don (Gail) Whitmore and niece Ruth Mote.

Ruth was a member of Christian Fellowship and spent many hours in study of the Bible.

Memorials are suggested lieu of flowers to charity of one’s choice.

Family and friends can gather at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary Thursday morning for 11am graveside services at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The procession will leave the mortuary at 10:30am.
