Scott, 67, of Billings, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife and two daughters in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, following his short, yet courageous, battle with cancer.
Scott was born on July 20, 1957, in Great Falls, the fifth child to his parents, James and Joanne Caddell. He was raised in Great Falls and attended C.M Russell High School. At the age of 17, Scott made the selfless decision to join and serve in the United States Navy — where he was stationed on the USS Oriskany. He was very proud of this opportunity and time spent serving his country.
Following his time in the Navy, Scott made his way back to Montana, where he met the love of his life, Carlee McNay, with whom he recently celebrated 42 years of marriage on April 24, 2024.
It was here in Billings that they raised their two daughters together. It was in 2013 that a missing piece of Scott’s heart was found, when he was reunited with his son, Christopher Sapp, after 39 years. Getting to witness this reunion and instant bond was an experience none of us will ever forget. He was so deeply proud of his kids and grandkids and that is one thing he made certain they knew.
Scott was a man of integrity, strength and love. He was never one to shy away from hard work and wasn’t afraid of getting a little dirt on his hands. He was a “putzer,” even being granted his own nickname which he wore proudly — getting most of the week’s house chores done before the sun came up and the rest of us rolled out of bed. He never had trouble finding something to do, clean or organize.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, whether he was cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events or spending hours around the kitchen table playing poker with friends. He always found great joy in being outside; he was often found sitting on his deck, enjoying his backyard, fishing, camping, or driving the beautiful Montana roads with his wife by his side.
The majority of Scott’s professional career was spent traveling, working in sales. He took great pride in his work and quickly became an expert and skilled craftsman in his field of fireplace and stove installation, repair and presentation. His meticulous skills were highly sought after and many in the industry knew him by name. He recently retired in 2023.
Scott will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Carlee; his children, Christopher (Taylor) Sapp, Christie (Sean) Hale and Alicia (Mike) Berve; his 12 grandchildren, Sarah, Chris Jr., Samantha, Sydney, Kylie, Jaxon, Quinn, Kolter, Bryar, Luke, Buxton and Jaylen; his two great-grandchildren, Harley and Raiden; his sisters, Chris (Dave) Stevenson, Connie (Jim) Farley; his brother-in-law Dan (Dee Ann) McNay; many nieces and nephews that he loved so deeply; as well as many friends that were like family.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jim and sister Karen; his in-laws James and Billie McNay, and Jim “Jocko” McNay; and his beloved German Shepherd, Jack.
We will be honoring Scott with a celebration of life from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Camelot Ranch, located at 8736 Camelot Lane in Billings, MT 59106.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the incredible doctors, nurses and staff at Billings Clinic ICC for all the care and kindness they provided Scott and his family during their time spent there.
