During the early morning hours of Christmas Day, 2024, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, Scott Lee Olson, aged 50, passed quietly, peacefully, and with dignity into everlasting life at his home in Billings, Montana, following a brief, intense, and valiant battle with cancer. His loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Kacey, was at his side when he passed.
On Veteran’s Day, 1974, Scott was born in Billings, Montana, to parents Jim and Sandy Olson. He was the youngest of three brothers, his older brothers being Mark and Travis. Scott attended local Billings schools and graduated from Billings West High School in 1993. Scott met his future wife Kacey in 1990 when they were aged 14 and 13, respectively. Little did they know at the time, but this meeting at Rimrock Mall would result in a 35-year lifelong relationship. Scott and Kacey were later married in 1999, and to this union, two sons, Dillon and Logan, were later born. Scott was an avid baseball fan and played for Boulder-Arrowhead Little League and American Legion baseball. His favorite times in baseball were his Boulder-Arrowhead days, when he and his buddies played not only to win, but also for fun. He had many pets that he loved, but his most favorite were his first golden retriever Rocky and our special kitty McKinley. Scott’s true love was his passion for automobiles, specifically, Chevrolet pickup trucks. He spent countless hours and dollars modifying, repairing, and restoring his trucks. Multiple tires and GM 10 bolt rear ends were at his mercy. His love for auto mechanical work has carried on to his sons, both of whom have become accomplished professional mechanics in their own right. He delighted in spending hours with this self-taught trade, working in the garage together with Dillon and Logan on project after project. His legacy will always be carried by his wife and his boys. Scott loved his boat and many nice summer afternoons were spent wakeboarding, tubing, and having a cold beer with family and friends at Cooney Dam Reservoir on the water. Scott and Kacey had their share of struggles in life, like most of us do. However, they fought hard for their marriage, and they knew and treasured the uniqueness of their relationship, being each other’s one and only everything. Their love was endless. Scott’s soft spoken, quiet, reserved demeanor often masked a wicked sense of humor and fun. His boys and their friends held a special place in his heart and spent many nights in the garage or on the back patio listening to music, talking, laughing, and making trouble. He loved having gatherings with all these young people at his home. Scott was employed as a journeyman plumber for Midland Mechanical at the time of his passing. He was a member of the Local 30 Plumber’s and Pipefitter’s Union.
Survivors include his beloved wife Kacey, sons Dillon and Logan, parents Jim and Sandy, brothers Mark and Travis, and numerous members of extended family and friends that will always hold him dear in their hearts.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Scott’s life is scheduled for Friday, January 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Michelotti-Sawyers Funeral Chapel will be handling funeral arrangements. Scattering of ashes will be scheduled at a date yet to be determined. A reception will follow at CJ’s Bar and Grill (Sidelines) at 2455 Central Avenue, in Billings, Montana. Memorials in Scott’s name can be sent to the charity of your choice. Scott’s family would like to extend special thanks to Stan and Kelly Stevens of Midland Mechanical, the crew at Midland Mechanical, Bob Smith Motors, Shiloh Automotive, the Solheim & Smith families of CJs Bar & Grill, his union brothers, his brother-in-law, Dr. Kris Cunningham, and the staff and nurses at Stillwater Hospice.
Our families are united in our collective and profound grief at the tragic loss of Scott at such a young age. Our hearts are broken. However, we take solace in the absolute knowledge that he is at peace and safe in the arms of our Almighty Lord. God Speed, Scott. We shall all meet again.
“Come as you are, Scott was never one to dress up, and he wouldn’t want you to on his behalf.”
