Veronica Billman
Veronica Billman, 98, passed Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2016. Veronica was born on Oct. 1, 1918, on the family farm in New Hradec, N.D., to Frank and Rose (Faiman) Binstock. She attended school in New Hradec along with her three brothers and six sisters, and could speak English, German and Bohemian. Veronica worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Dickinson, N.D., in the Nursing Department.
Veronica married Joe Billman on May 31, 1943. The two farmed in Dunn County, N.D., for five years before moving to Dickinson. In 1964, they moved to Billings, where she was a homemaker, as well as working at the Northern Hotel for 10 years.
Veronica was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Circle, Moose Lodge and Good Sam's.
She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and made sure everyone was well-fed, the smell of homemade bread always filling her house.
Veronica enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, quilting, gardening, dancing, traveling in the RV and, most of all, playing cards with family and friends. Veronica said that she lived for her children and grandchildren, and that the joy of her life was when she had the opportunity to spend time with them.
Veronica was a resident at St. John's Lutheran Ministries at the Hansen Cottage for the past three and a half years. We want to express our thanks to the personal care assistants, nurses and staff for the love and care she received.
Veronica was preceded in death by husband, Joe; son, William; grandson, Charlie; daughter-in-law, Barbara Billman; son-in-law, Jerry Brittain; parents and nine siblings. Veronica is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Diane), Bernard, Jack (Randi); two daughters, Judy Brittain, Shirley (Doug) Bales; nine grandchildren, Tina, Tana, Joey, Janette, Janelle, Chad, Laura, Jacob, Dillon; 11 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Michael, Jarrett, Jillian, Sam, Adam, Colter, Madison, Eve, Elyse, Grant; a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., followed immediately at the Mortuary by a vigil service. The Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Mary Queen of Peace.
