Vince HummelVince Hummel, 78 of Billings, died Friday, September 22, 2006 at St. Vincent Healthcare.
Born in Herried, South Dakota, on September 3, 1928, Vince was the son of Jacob and Rose Hummel. The family moved to Billings, Montana in 1936. Vince graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1947. In 1948 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving four years during the Korean Conflict..
On November 14, 1950, Vince married Lorraine Hayes in Billings. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines, Vince returned to work for Midland National Bank (now US Bank). He retired from the Bank on December 31, 1984. Vince and Lorraine raised 7 children, five boys and two girls.
Vince was a member of the West Billings Optimist Club for approximately 25 years. He was Past President of this club and Lieutenant Governor of the AMS District of Optimist International. He also is a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as financial secretary for 18 years. He was District Deputy for one year and received his Honorary Life Membership in September, 1998 serving 46 years in the K of C. He was a member of the American Legion, Yellowstone Post #4. Vince was a Past President of St. Patrick's Holy Name Society, Past President of St. Thomas Parish Council.
Vince was very active in bowling serving as President of the Billings Bowling Association after going through the chairs. He also served as association secretary for 17 years and was a member of the Billings Association Hall of Fame and the Montana State Bowling Hall of Fame. Upon retiring from the Billings Bowling Association in 1993 he was granted a lifetime membership in the American Bowling Congress of which he was very proud to receive. Vince enjoyed the game of bowling and had a lifetime average of 177.
Vince will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include Lorraine, his wife of 55 years, his daughters Kathy (Jim) Lombardozzi, and Christine (Les) Ryder, five sons, Vince Jr., James (Valerie), Joe, Jerome (Lolly), and Patrick, two brothers, Ed (Marge), and Francis, two sisters, Lucille Berrie, and Beatrice (Dave) Groll, sister-in-law Rdee Hummel, 13 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Raymond, Lawrence, and Jerome, and one sister Marcella.
Vigil services will be 7pm Tuesday at St. Thomas The Apostle Church. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Wednesday at the Church with Military Honors to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
